PHP 8.0 & CMS Updates
26th November 2020
—
Good news for anyone on our bespoke content management system (CMS), you'll be getting an automatic update today making you ready for PHP 8.0 as well as some other tools to help improve your search engine presence.
What is PHP?
PHP is the largest programming language used in website technologies, comprising around 50% of the market share as of today.
What are the benefits of upgrading?
- Faster load times — Up to 100% faster PHP code execution, whilst there are other factors which effect page load speed, this should significantly help sites that have more complex systems
- Ongoing security support — PHP 7.4 will stop receiving security support on the 28th November 2021, at which point your site could become vulnerable to exploits or attacks
- Better coding standards — So this isn't one you should notice, but better standards are always a good thing and will help with any ongoing updates to your site
How do I upgrade if I'm on a different platform
We can either transfer your site to our bespoke CMS or make the updates to your existing system.
We're happy to do the work required to update your website, test your systems to ensure they are all working as intended and upgrade you to the new major version of PHP.
If you'd like to upgrade now or before the deadline, please feel free to get in touch for a quote.
Do I need to upgrade?
No, there is no requirement from us for you to upgrade. We will continue to support old versions of PHP for as long as they remain safe to do so.
