Payment Gateway Changes 3-D Secure 2.0
23rd October 2020
—
With European banks switching over to using Visa's 3-D Secure 2.0 (3DS2) in December 2020, we are getting in touch with customers to ensure their systems are ready to handle the new banking requirements.
What is 3DS2?
3-D Secure 2.0 is a system designed to mitigate fraud and speed up online transactions when trust can be established.
This is achieved by transmitting a lot more information about the client requesting the transaction and if that information should fall short on checks, the user will then be prompted to enter additional information sent to them by their bank.
For most businesses this will be a mandatory upgrade, as not supporting 3DS2 will lead to a number of transactions failing.
What are the benefits of 3DS2?
- Faster checkout times
- Improved security
- Less checkout abandonment
- Better customer experience
What do I have to do to be ready?
For any customers currently on Nubble Media's eCommerce platform, you will have received an update today with the latest payment gateway versions for your chosen payment provider (SagePay, Stripe, PayPal, etc) ensuring you will not lose out on any transactions once the changeover takes place.
If you are on a different CMS system and not already receiving automatic updates, we'll be getting in touch with you regarding these new banking requirements to ensure you don't lose out any business from EU or UK businesses when respective banks swap over.
